By converting unused foreign coins and banknotes into donations, Leftover Currency is helping Guide Dogs UK empower thousands of people with sight loss, providing them with the tools and support to live independently and with confidence. Here’s how this unique partnership makes a difference and how you can get involved.

At Leftover Currency, we are proud to partner with Guide Dogs UK, which provides life-changing services to people with sight loss. Since March 2023, this collaboration has enabled us to help Guide Dogs through foreign currency donations, transforming unused holiday cash into vital funding for the charity’s work.

Donate your leftover currency to Guide Dogs

Guide Dogs UK supports over 360,000 registered blind or partially sighted people and two million others with sight loss in the UK. Many face challenges like poor education, high unemployment, and social isolation. Guide Dogs strives to address these issues, providing tailored services that help individuals regain confidence, live independently, and overcome the barriers they face due to their visual impairment. Their support also extends to children, ensuring they have the tools to lead independent lives. Through research and collaborations, Guide Dogs continually improves its services, ensuring dogs are well-trained and equipped.

You can support Guide Dogs by donating leftover currency. Simply fill out the exchange form and send your spare foreign coins or notes to Leftover Currency’s Datchet office.

How Leftover Currency’s partnership works

Since we partnered with Guide Dogs UK, we’ve raised over £10,000 through foreign currency donations. Our exchange process is simple: Leftover Currency converts all foreign and domestic coins and banknotes into cash, including obsolete currencies. We process and exchange this money and donate the total exchange value, plus an additional 5% on top, to Guide Dogs. This ensures that every penny of your donation benefits those who need it most.

We’re proud to say that no hidden fees or commissions are taken from your donation. Once your foreign currency is processed, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your donation details. We also share this information with Guide Dogs UK, so they are fully informed of the support they’re receiving.

Guide Dogs’ foreign currency project success

Guide Dogs UK has made foreign currency fundraising a key part of its strategy. In November 2023, this initiative earned the Chairman’s Innovations Award. The project involves community fundraising groups and has been promoted through talks with various groups, including corporate partners, the general public, and youth groups.

How you can help

You too can contribute to Guide Dogs’ fantastic work by donating your leftover foreign currency. Whether it’s a few coins from a recent holiday or an envelope of old banknotes from trips past, your donation can make a real difference. Here’s how you can help:

  1. Download and fill out the Guide Dogs exchange form.
  2. Send your foreign coins or banknotes to our Leftover Currency, Datchet office processing centre.
  3. We will convert the currency and donate the total exchange value, plus 5% extra, to Guide Dogs.

If you are a current charity partner and would like to share your success story with us, please get in touch with the Leftover Currency team. We’re always looking for ways to improve our service and further support the charitable causes we’re passionate about.
