In 1999, the Fourth Lev was introduced. The lev was redenominated at 1000 old to 1 new lev and renamed ‘New Lev’, with currency code BGN. The banknotes on this page are the current Bulgarian New Leva in use in Bulgaria today. This series of Bulgarian Lev banknotes are in use in Bulgaria until the end of 2025. On 1 January 2026 Bulgaria officially joins the Eurozone and these bills will no longer be a valid means of payment in Bulgaria.
